Trainer
As a trainer, Marisa B. Knox has helped over thirty plus girls and boys in the Houston metro area develop their basketball skill level and knowledge of the game through her Skills & Strength Training Sessions. Marisa focuses on improving fundamentals, speed, agility, strength and conditioning to ensure each athlete has a solid foundation to become knowledgeable, strong and skilled basketball players. Players practice game like situations in highly competitive drills to push each other to get better. Marisa believes that hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t works hard. Her training is rooted on the principle that highly competitive players rely on skills and strength training to ensure they remain in top shape and out perform their competition.
Coach
As an experienced coach, Marisa B. Knox, also known as Coach Knox, led KIPP Voyage Academy for Girls, with a previously losing record (4-6) in 2019 to back-to-back undefeated (6-0) 2020 and 2021 regular seasons. In the post-season, Coach Knox was victorious, winning to back-to-back 2020 and 2021 District Championships and leading KIPP Voyage two State Finalist appearances. Coach Knox trained and developed players with limited basketball experience, many girls learning the game for the first time. Coach Knox’s knowledge, skill, competitiveness, and patience pushed players to get better and maximize their growth everyday. In 2021, Coach Knox was award Coach of the Year by KIPP Texas-Houston Public Schools.
Teacher
Marisa B. Knox graduated from Cornell University 18’ with a Bachelor of Science in Social Entrepreneurship. After graduating, Marisa moved to Houston, TX and shortly after started her teaching career as a Middle School Writing and Social Studies Teacher for KIPP Public Schools. In 2021, Marisa Knox transitioned out of the classroom and into Post-Secondary and College Readiness as a 12th Grade Academic Advisor for EMERGE advising and empowering high performing students from underserved communities to attend and graduate from selective colleges and universities across the nation.
Point Guard at Cornell University
Sophomore (2015-16): Knox saw a significant jump in playing time during her sophomores season, seeing action in 27 games and averaging 13.9 minutes per contest. She was the first player off the bench seven times and set a new career-high with nine points at Brown on March 5. Knox also eclipsed a career-high with seven rebounds in a career-best 25 minutes at Dartmouth on Feb. 19. She her most complete game at Howard with six points, five assists, four rebounds and one steal in 20 minutes.
Freshman (2014-15): Knox saw action in six games during her freshman season, averaging 1.5 minutes per contest. She finished the year with two points and three rebounds.
Prior to Cornell University
As the team’s starting point guard, Knox helped Central high school win the 2011 TSSAA AAA State Championship, before attending Center Hill high school and wining a 5A District Championship in 2013. During her senior season, she competed for Houston high school and earned a trip to the state tournament after winning the TSSAA District 15 championship, a regional championship, and a sub-state championship.
